Peter was called Simon before he encountered the transformative love of Jesus. This rugged fisherman could hear from God. He dropped all and followed Jesus at a single word. Yet he was somewhat impetuous. Perhaps he was just like someone you know in the faith. One day they’re up and then the next they’re down. Maybe that one is you … or me.
When Jesus is about to do something in your life, He reveals something about you that you don’t already know!
He called Simon by His new name ‘Peter’ meaning ‘rock’. (Matthew 16:18) He was setting in motion the transforming power of covenant naming. Simon was no longer to be like a reed shaken in the wind, but like a solid rock – a pillar in God’s church.
If you feel like you vaciliate at every pressure, take heart, Jesus is here to transform your weaknesses into strengths. He’s good at that.
